Tasty Spicy Chicken Momos [Home Recipe]

Chicken Momos


Ingredients for Chicken Momos:

For the Filling:

  • 500 grams boneless chicken, finely chopped
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 inch ginger, grated
  • 1 green chilli, finely chopped
  • 1 red bell pepper, finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp vinegar
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Cornflour slurry (1 tbsp cornflour mixed with 2 tbsp water)

For the Momo Dough:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour (maida)
  • ½ cup water (approximately)
  • Salt to taste
  • Cornflour (for dusting)

For Steaming:

  • Water in a steamer pot or a colander over a pot of boiling water.

Instructions:

1. In a pan, heat some oil and add chopped onions, garlic, and ginger. Sauté until the onions turn translucent. Add chopped green chilli and red bell pepper. Cook for another minute.


2. Add finely chopped chicken to the pan and cook until it turns white. Add soy sauce and vinegar. Mix well and cook for another minute. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Add cornflour slurry and mix well. Cook for another minute until the filling thickens. Keep aside.


3. In a mixing bowl, add all-purpose flour (maida) and salt. Mix well. Add water gradually while mixing continuously until the dough comes together. Knead the dough for a few minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. Cover the dough with a damp cloth and keep aside for 10 minutes.


4. Dust a clean surface with cornflour. Roll out the dough into a thin sheet using a rolling pin. Cut out small circles using a round cutter or a glass (approximate diameter - 4 inches). Roll out each circle into a thin sheet using your palms or a rolling pin. Fill each sheet with chicken filling (approximate 1 tbsp). Fold the edges to seal the momo tightly. Repeat with the remaining dough and filling. You can also use a momo maker to make this process easier and quicker.


5. Place the filled momos on a steamer basket or a colander over boiling water in a pot. Steam for 8-10 minutes or until the momos are cooked through and the dough is translucent. Serve hot with tomato ketchup or any other dipping sauce of your choice. Enjoy your homemade chicken momos!
